I have a pair of JBL 4412A's for my office speakers which I like. I had an Adcom GFA-555, then a pair of GFA-565's. I have been wanting to try Bryston so when a 4B came along I got it. The mids are pretty good as is the bass. The high freqs were harsh. I mean harsh.
I talked with a few people. The consensus was that the high freqs of the 4B are too bright and combined with the Titanium tweeters it was not going to work.
Supposedly the 4B ST is a significant improvement and an SST even more so. Last week I saw an SST for a reasonable price and bought it.
It is much more refined than the 4B. The mids are quieter and more detailed. The bass is clean, tight, and decisive. The highs, while certainly not shy are much more in line with the lower freqs.
It is still brighter then I would like. People familiar with Brystons think they don't pair well with titanium tweeters. I would like to try some silk tweeters.
I am looking for recommendations. If I find a replacement I like the 052Ti's are obsolete so I would have no problem selling them, plus I have some spares I could sell as well. That gives me $3 - 400 to work with for silk tweeters.
Here are the specs for the JBL 052Ti's;
HIGH FREQUENCY DOME RADIATOR:
Nominal Diameter: 25 mm (I in)
Voice Coil: 25 mm (1 in) diameter copper
Magnetic Assembly Weight: 0.91 kg (2 lb)
Flux Density: I.5 tesla (I 5,000 gauss)
Sensitivity? 92 dB SPL. (2.83 V) at I m (3.3 ft)
The flange measures 5" across.
Thanks!

The original ones probably need the small foam damper replaced, are underneath the domes and they can cause things to sound bright if they’re too old.
I wouldn’t know what would work for replacements however, maybe some entirely different speakers.

I never liked the sound of the 035ti tweeter. Yes, the foam behind the dome crumbling will make it sound way worse, but the tweeter really suffers from high THD, especially at louder playback levels. The older designs with the LE26 sounded much better in many ways despite not having the extended response of the TI dome.
I'd consider a different metal 1" dome from Seas or SB Acoustics. The diaphragm material isn't your issue. A metal dome can sound "warmer" and more relaxed than a soft dome. It depends on how much work you want to do to the crossover, optimizing it for the replacement tweeter. It will likely not be as simple as just a tweeter swap itself. If you really do want a decent fabric dome, the Morel CAT378 is the easiest and best high efficiency soft dome option IMO.

I will check the damper. What is a suitable replacement if it is dried out?
A different pair of speakers would not be an unwelcome outcome. I always like to try new things. A horizontal arrangement and that they are meant for near field placement is optimum for the arrangement I have in my office and there are precious few, if any, modern monitors with a 12" woofer.

The larger 035Ti uses I think a 1/2” thick X 1/2” diameter piece of closed cell foam, like what would come as lining in a typical hard case for photography equipment for example. More of a medium density. So maybe 1/2 the diameter of the dome, and just tall enough to provide some damping( .060 - .090 crush).
Mine sound quite nice, but will admit they can easily be made to sound bad when not balanced to the other drivers. I don’t listen at higher volumes even though they’re in my car, and have a decent eq in the head unit, which helps to tune everything. I use some Russian polystyrene caps for the crossovers (are a clone of the 4406) took forever to smooth out but was worth the wait.
