what is the difference beween the 6n6, and 6n6G and 6n6p-1 tubes? I am building D. schmarders 12AX7 - 6N6 amplifier in which he shows only the 6N6 tube that is larger that some 6N6P-1 tubes I ordered by mistake. And I got a GM 6N6G tube as well. Anyway, the pinouts are different on the Russian data sheets and I can't decipher them.
Looking as a schematic for it I found online that might not be the one you're working from - link it - says you need an American type 6N6, not the Soviet one.

Seems like you're talking about this amp: Dave's Homemade Audio Amplifier using a 12AX7 and 6N6
That uses the 6N6G, which is an American dual, dissimilar, triode. The "G" is the glass one. There is also a metal version which don't seem to be very common.
The 6N6G is an octal version of the 6B5. Other than the base, it's electrically the same. Here's its data sheet, which has to be one of the most detailed I've ever seen.

I've been breadboarding an amp that uses these in a configuration that some have dubbed an "inverted SET". It's inverted in the sense that, typically, SETs use directly heated output tubes and indirectly heated input / drivers. The most commonly used outputs range from relatively expensive to very expensive and require a lot of drive.
In this case, I'm using indirectly heated 6N6G outputs, which are relatively inexpensive and easy to drive and 26s on the input, which are directly heated and also plentiful and relatively inexpensive. I've tried using numerous other DHT input tubes, all of which sounded good, but I've settled on the 26.
Part of the rationale (which I'm not necessarily saying is correct, I'll leave the debate to others) is that the input tube has a larger effect on the overall sound since the signal goes through it first. In my limited experience, directly heated tubes do bring something special to the party. I strongly suggest you try some.
I avoided using DHT input tubes for years after reading stories about hum and microphonics making them being difficult to tame. I've been pleasantly surprised and haven't had any major issues.
The 6N6G is a really cool tube. Last year I built a PP amp with them using the chassis and transformers from a Magnavox 6V6 console stereo amp. The front end of that one uses 5751s and is essentially copied from the well regarded ($3500) Leben amp. It sounds great but with the 26s (and other DHTs) it's even better.

The designer shows an option for a tone control section. If you're not adding tone controls then just a single stage of 12AX7 is probably plenty of gain. That way you'd have a 3 tube stereo amp with the single 12AX7 serving both channels as the input tube. Maybe the designer has two gain stages to use it with all his radios or crystal sets. Id breadboard it with just one gain Stage first before machining a chassis for two 12AX7's, then see if that suits me. Most sources these days don't need that much gain. That is, if you are not adding the tone stack.
