Hi all. I've got some rather large RCA plugs that I would like to use, but I can't seem to find any brands of cable that do a big enough overall diameter. The plugs take up to 10mm OD, but all I have are various van damme cables which are only up to 6mm and are too small to be clamped into the large plugs.
I would be most grateful if anyone could let me know where I can buy some 9mm or 10mm unterminated cable for RCA interconnects, preferably online and in the UK.
Thanks in advance.

I can't locate shotgun RCA cable that big.
16mm by 6mm is already a substantial size for an RCA interconnect cable.

I use two or three layers of heatshrink. Line up the ends that face the plug and stagger the other ends 25mm or so for each successive layer. Longest on top.
Thanks, I think I’ve found something suitable Furutech SA-22 Interconnect Cable (Sold Per 0.5m) - Analogue Seduction
9mm, so hopefully a perfect fit

I thought you were after a stereo RCA interconnect, and you would want dual shotgun cable, where each one of two insulated shielded conductors is large in diameter. Thanks, I think I’ve found something suitable..

Need strain-relief boots for them in that case. Thin flexible cable is much more managable anyway. Audio line signals require nothing special in cable, just properly shielded.
Hi, sorry, I didn't make it very clear in my first post but these are the type of plugs I have: 4XAudio Connectors Gold Plated RCA Nakamichi Phono Plugs Non Solder UK STOCK | eBay . I'm just making regular single cables, not shotgun.
I've also just realised that Van Damme does an 8.5mm overall diameter version of the cable I already had but was too small. Van Damme Silver Series Session Grade Instrument Cable Low Cap 55 (by the metre) | eBay
I think I'll probably go with the Van Damme as it's what I'm used to. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I've ordered some 8.5mm and 9mm cable, and whichever I use I'll use some heat shrink as you described.
Independt of the connector, skinny solid core should be best for interconnects. Use skinny wire, just make it look fat.

Sacrificing sonics to fit a connector?
You could do skinny over a thickish teflon core Allen Wright syle and then sheath it in somethign fancy looking.
I have bits for such. 30g WWW, Eichamn RCA, telfon tubing (a bit stiff).

I have some of those on a pair of ready made (commercial, not DIY) cables (they came with the CD player, I wouldn't have bought them).
Please note my ready made cables were over-sheathed with a (looks like) plastic sleeve (red and black to distinguish left & right channels).
Large size heatshrink would serve as a substitute. Without it, strain relief is non-existent.
Really, it's not worth the hassle making them up - ready made Van Damme cables are cheap enough and of excellent quality.

Would using 8.5mm Van Damme silver series be sacrificing sound quality? I don't know too much about cables and SQ.
Thanks, but I think I'm just going to order some of the 8.5mm Van Damme and knock something together. These aren't that important, it was more to use up the plugs.

I normally make my own cables using Van Damme XKE, but I might make these big ones up anyway just to keep myself occupied. I normally make my own cables from Van Damme XKE with a normal diameter.
You're probably right that it's not really worth the hassle. The plugs are likely not genuine anyway. I can't even remember why I have these plugs, I possibly ordered them by accident a while ago.
What plugs would you recommended that are of good quality and reasonably priced? I've used these before which seem to be paired with Van Damme ready made cables 4 x Gold Plated Phono RCA Plugs Male Screw Connectors HiFi Audio Metal 24K | eBay
Any well-screened cable is fine for audio, absolutely no need for anything fancy unless at microphone levels when semiconducting membranes can be useful for reducing microphones due to the triboelectric effect. Electrons can't read the brand-name of your cable, they just see the copper.
That would be useless hanging out the back of an RCA. It's too stiff and still not nearly as big as the op wants.

Unsubstantiated piffle paffle. If I crept in to your house and switched your interconnects you would only notice when you next did your dusting.
