Sony CXA 1081m

Servo IC chips like the CXA1081m have rather low power consumption and generally operate at or near room temperature.

If your chip is getting hot it is either faulty or one if it’s output pins has been improperly connected to ground or the +5V rail.

Can you tell us what you were doing when it failed?
What were you “improving” in your CD player?

Correction:

The CXA1081 functions as RF preamplifier and APC control circuit.

Power consumption is quite low, perhaps even lower than most servo IC chips. It shouldn’t rise above room temperature.
