The Satori MW16P and the Peerless NE180 look very similar. Is this just coincidence or did the companies share info or parts etc? I find it awfully coincidental that these drivers from 2 manufacturers look so much the same.

I was only speaking of the construction and appearance. They are quite a bit different electrically and mechanically. I wonder if the peerless sound good. They are cheaper.

The basket design looks similar. perhaps they are both sourcing their baskets from the same supplier? Or maybe that basket design happens to be a good one and so they both ened up using the same basic shape?
As ttan98 pointed out, there are many differences beyond the appearance.

Well, Tymphany/Vifa/Peerless/Scanspeak and SB have common roots and if one dives into the supply chain in the speaker industry, a lot of things get a lot more clear.
The NE180 is a driver to be respected. Just like a few others who are often overlooked (6ND430 anyone?). At the price at PE it really is a bargain. Pity the shipping costs for us over here ruin the equation.

I have a pair of NE149's. They are pulling duty as the midranges in my 3 way active OB's.
They are wonderful. I looked at the Satoris, that price tag though.
I have had the opportunity to enjoy several SB and Satori drivers and I am a huge fan. However, I couldn't justify the price difference between the two. The ROI just didn't seem to be there for me.
If everything else you have is super-duper top shelf gear... then sure, why not? Otherwise, I have also used many Peerless drivers and have always been at least satisfied. In most instances they have exceeded my expectations.

#Markbakk thank you that makes it clearer.
#Smirkr I have a high end system so I do expect to get the most out of it, thanks
