Hi, new here. I have been all over the world (on forums) trying to find someone who 'knows' Kef B139 bass speaker units. By 'knows' I mean someone who has rebuilt one of these units, more specifically the early 'racetrack' version. It can be done. I paid to have one done 12 years ago but the repairer is no longer, anyway I want to do it myself. As I say I've tried several forums, tried Falcon Acoustics, who are remanufacturing B139s, but they won't help. Other speaker repairers seem to shy away from them (Wilmslow Audio for instance). I know they cannot be done by 'standard' speaker repair methods but that's part of the fun. So is there anybody in the world who can shed light on this problem please. I wait... But I'm not holding my breath...
sb acoustics has a race track woofer, why not just pick one of those and pretend it is a b139? or just try tweak this unit to suit your needs? why does it have to be a b139, maybe a different design could do even better?
Hi guys, thanks for the replies. To celef: Not familiar with sb acoustics, Why does it have to be a B139? Because I'm a 'Classics' fan. I do classic cars and classic speakers for my hobbies. None of this 'modern' stuff thankyou. (''Just livin' in the past man, livin' in the past.'' To quote Hendrix.) So things must be kept as original as possible. The units are bought as 'back up' for a pair of Cambridge Audio R50s I recently obtained.
To Lojzek: To put it simply someone seems to have 'had a go at them' already. The surrounds look new but the spiders are set at the wrong height on the voice coils so the voice coils are 'bottoming' ie hitting the magnet back plate and rattleing like a good 'un. At the very least the spiders need to be released from the voice coils and 'reset' correctly which poses alignment problems because, if you are familiar with B139s you will know they are built back to front. Because the 'cone' is solid polystyrene you can't put an alignment shim in from the front, as you would with a standard speaker rebuild. Hope that helps to make things clearer? Thanks.

What is the adress of the vintage Kef forum ??? It's here you can find something if exists imo ! there is risk a solvant attack the polystyren so but a carefull manual removing, I will not risk the chemical way.

A surplus pair will likely be cheaper than paying someone skilled enuff to dissassemble, fix and reassemble a B139.
