WTB: CA3080

You had me doubt that as you apparently did not find them and chose to open a thread instead 🙂 Maybe you should specify what version you exactly are looking for as you can buy the CA3080 reissues in quantities in the UK and elsewhere, captain-not-so-obvious.

The reissues are practically the same as the old ones which are really nowhere to be found anymore in quantities no matter how many threads will be opened about them. These are not for instance TDA1541A of which apparently 400 million were produced if I check the Ebay ads. I have the old ones still in stock but since you are so friendly I suggest to keep looking. Viel Erfolg!

Those of us who owned an original white faced ARP Odyssey in the 70's know that the old RCA CA3080's in the round metal can were junk.

New ones worked, but they got noisy as time passed. After a year or two the VCA became very noisy. I bought my Odyssey used, and quite noisy. It had been back to ARP twice, once under warranty. It got noisy a third time so I soldered little wires on a non RCA DIP part and the problems were gone forever. I would perform that surgery on two other Odysseys after that.

I also found a noisy CA3080 on a round can that was from the post RCA era, Harris or Intersil maybe. I don't know if it was the RCA design, process, or a specific problem related to the round can version.
