Hi,
I replaced the 4 pin output socket of my unimproved 3009 with RCA jacks. Instead of connecting the ground wire to the ground socket I soldered it to the ground terminal of the left channel jack in order to avoid a separate ground wire from my preamp to the tonearm.
Is this correct, I want to avoid hums.
Cheers,

Thank Ray, it could but I would have to remove the arm, re-set it up... Would not I be safer using the interconnect ground wire per factory instructions?
Yes, I thought you already had done it. Both ways have always seemed to work ok for me,
with various combinations of arms, cartridges, and preamps. I would use the same channel as the
one the mu metal cartridge shield is connected to (if there is one), usually it's the left ground terminal.

The whole arm assembly and chassis should be grounded, not just the arm. My pioneer turntable has a round clip which goes into the arm shaft, so grounding bearings and support.
A separate ground wire is connected to a clip spring which holds the counterweight guide ball inside the arm. So 6 tiny wires come out of the shaft.
On TT with plastic shells, there is usually a glued metallic shielding plate connected to the left channel ground.
If You don't experience noise or hum with Your gear when touching the TT leave it this way.
Problem is usually when You try with other gear...

I can thoroughly recommend 'Y Tome Audio' in Wales UK, to make up a correctly earthed lead for this arm. You can find him on E Bay. He will use Van Damme cable and Neutrik connectors, 1m length was about £40 with UK post. Made a huge difference over whatever was fitted before. Capacitance, including plugs for that length was @100pf.
