Subwoofer enclosure

I had a shop build me this box .

I’m am not happy with the quality of the work done .

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I should say to them instead of walking in the shop hot headed and going off on them since that won’t solve anything .

I’m pretty upset with the quality of work since I paid close to $1400 to have this box built .

Here’s some pics of what I’m talking about and I noticed more flaws as well but the carpet it hiding a lot of the flaws .

Also there are a lot of areas where the screws split the wood due to not pre drilling and the front panel of the box sticks out further then the top panel not square at all this looks thrown together and no pride In the work I have them 3 weeks to build this so I didn’t rush them and this only a couple of areas where the wood is split but there’s wood split all over the entire enclosure

Any suggestions on what I should say to them since I know I won’t ever get all of my money back for this

You need to call them out on exactly what this is. No need to use vulgarity but no need to be diplomatic either. Don't accept it. Demand your money back. Threaten to take them to court. Serve them with papers. Do they have a google account? Is it a reputable cabinet making shop?

Yes gave them a drawing. Everything is doubled up on the enclosure . So it’s 2- 3/4” of Mdf

The drawing I gave them is from a box designer that’s been in business several years it was professionally designed just not put together with the same quality

And yes this is gonna be in the 8k system I’m building

Car audio shops typically do a good job but they're not going to produce furniture quality work.

Pre-drilling isn't common. It's VERY time consuming. Most car audio shops don't even use screws. They use air-staplers which are much faster. If you specified that they use screws, you should probably have also specified that they pre-drilled.

I think part of the problem was that you accepted it when you picked it up. If it was delivered when you weren't home, that may help you in your complaint.

Ouch! the glue dripping is obviously fine, the black though? is that their silicone job? I do not understand what is going on there. For the price you paid it should be Birch or another hardwood plywood and not MDF. Anyone who works with MDF knows you need to predrill, I use real Baltic birch and I still predrill all my boxes and use screws that aren't required to predrill (I don't understand how that works but beside the point)

If they become a problem for you and you want to fix it, fiberglass resin inside the box. Mix the resin with hardener and pour it in. I have not done this technique but have seen it done. I was planning my next enclosure to do this, you can use the UV curing resin which is pretty expensive but can be done in a day, otherwise what I plan on doing is use just regular resin and every night I will pour one side, let cure, in the morning turn the box and pour, again that night..... Rinse, wash, repeat!

Not sure where you live but join your local basshead group on the book of faces (every state has one) and find a guy on there who just builds boxes. If the shop doesn't play ball make sure to put them on blast on that group as well, only after you have given them opportunity to right their wrongs. Lastly no matter the outcome of all this, NEVER do business with them again! I trust you are not their amplifier repair tech?

Also not sure how many driver you have but if 2, may want to triple baffle if throwing 8k at them. Have pictures of the whole box?
