DIY Speaker help

Hi.

Wondered if someone would be able to help me. I'm looking to convert an older wooden box single speaker into a unit that can house an Alexa device and speakers within it. I'm looking for a simple 2 coaxial speaker kit or order separate components so it can all be housed within the unit, and attached to the Alexa via the 3.5amp jack. I'd look decent quality speakers. But thinking under £30 seems possible?. Would anyone know where I could get these bits. Ideally would prefer not to have to solder

Thank you for any help, Dave

Welcome to diyAudio!

From your eBay link, may I presume you are located in the UK?

Judging by the battery holder, that amplifier kit will run off a 6V DC wall wart power supply.

If you need help connecting one up, just ask.

Actually, it is not clear from the listing whether the amplifier come pre-assembled or you just get the printed circuit board and components - it does say 'kit'!

I'd be wary of these eBay offers, I can't even download the promised data sheet.

Here is a 'plug and play' amplifier which you could build into your loudspeaker cabinet, but note my comments below:

OWAYKEY Bluetooth 50W+50W Stereo Audio Amplifier Board: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Please note that I have no experience of this device and can't comment on how well it may function. The 50W+50W power rating is an "up to" and "peak" description and, in real terms, I wouldn't expect more than, say, 15W of undistorted power per channel.

It requires a 20V DC power supply of sufficient current/power rating. For safety reasons, I am reluctant to suggest a candidate. At any rate, adding on the cost of a suitable power supply and a suitable pair of speaker drivers would bring the total cost to over £60.

The amp board has screw down terminals to accept (thin) speaker wire (see attachment).

It also has a 3.5mm input socket and a 5.5 x 2.1mm DC power socket (centre positive).

Have you thought of what diameter of speaker driver you need in order to fit two in your box? The front baffle board will already have holes for the existing driver(s) - have you thought of how you are going to mount a new pair of drivers on the baffle?
