I blew up a Signetics 5534 around 1985 and could only find a TI replacement. It was an entirely different sound. And no, it was not better.

Perhaps the best way to get a genuine sample is to buy some old board.

Yes, maybe best to get an old Philips cd player and hope i can get them out clean.
