kenwood kr-2090

i replaced the power caps in this amp but now the output is totally distorted. does anyone have any experience with this? at first the output was weak and distorted, then suddenly it became loud and distorted.

never mind i had a phono preamp plugged into the integrated phono preamp on the amp

Have you tried cleaning all the switches and pots? I'm not familiar with the kr-2090, but many kenwoods of that time exhibit all kinds of issues caused by burnt contacts in the power switch. A gentle sanding on the contacts worked in my kr-6050. That and a couple rounds of DeOxit on everything that moves.

Are you considering replacing any other electrolytics? If you're keeping it around I'd suggest doing all the ones in the power supply, preamp, and power amps. (Maybe the tuner too if you're going to use it - I don't)

The caps and switch cleaning took my kr-6050 from sounding AWFUL to excellent.

It may be worth checking the voltages at the reference points from the service manual to see if anything is off spec. Have you checked to see if there's any transistors in there on the known to fail list?
