Check these out! Any ideas? First of all, that whole transparent embossed structure is the diaphragm. They appear to be dynamic drivers. Each one of those long tubular bump outs has a coil extending down underneath it which follows it's tubular shape, so 11 coils. Ignore the divits, there's no break in the underlying structure. The coils in turn are surrounding permanent magnets. The surround is a simple two tiered pleated accordian with about 5mm Xmec. They seem to be well made, about 2-3lbs. Re is 3.6ohm. Diaphragm is 4.5 X 4.5 in. The whole thing is 7/8" thick.

Picture here seems to match, but I'm not finding similar pictures for Orthophase when I search elsewhere. Not sure if they meant to imply that Orthophase covered multiple items in the category. Another option is that the other images online are showing the same thing, but the resolution is so poor I just can't tell.

That's them! Thank you! Now do they work as Pano has queried? Who knows, I just received them, 12 of them. I was thinking a pair of line arrays. Can't be too inefficient with all that copper and magnets.😉

However after perusing that link, I'm not sure these are of Orthophase origin. From the condition of the foam gaskets on the back, they are clearly way newer than the 60's.

By the way they look and move, they probably sound awesome! Russian prototype? 🙂

I would wire them series/parallel for ~8 or 12 ohm. Any amp should be able to drive it.
They are quoted 85dB, so a line array should be normal efficiency. I would use sub, and drive them only from ~150Hz up. Even they claim 30Hz, excessive movement may be detrimental to the overal sound. They should go all the way up. Should be exciting to find out.

I happen to have a brand new pair of Jbl 2269 I’ve been struggling to find something neat to do with. 🙂
