Hi folks. Hoping someone can give me a clue. The thing keeps cutting out every 20-30 sec or so for just a second. What could it be? I have another tuner without the issue so it's not the broadcast. Good contact on all connections. TIA

Both channels, that's odd for a brief drop out in a receiver. Maybe it's just the station
playing a bad CD, that happens here too. Sometimes they play a really bad CD and
it makes a bunch of funny noises, not just muting, like a bad one that you own can do.
The FM station signal strength remains constant, right?

I know, that's what I thought until it happened cd after cd. I then hooked up your fav, my Dynaco FM 3, and it did not happen again.

btw, are you willing to share your mods on the Dynaco? I really love this tuner but the sensitivity.
Not a set up, honest!🙂

Try turning off AFC and muting. If nothing untoward happens when it would normally cut out, I'd suspect an alignment issue, primarily the discriminator that might need a tweak. If there is an audible glitch, I would look at the regulator for the tuning voltage. (The heated TCA530 is fairly notorious, for example.)

Thanks. Yes, I've done all the switches on and off. It functions awesome otherwise. This tuner was recently gone over and serviced by Marc Bishoff in LA. However I cannot attest to that, it's what I was told by previous owner. It appears to be in pristine condition. I've had it for less than a year and it has functioned flawlessly til now. Mind you I don't use it often and keep it unplugged in the meantime.

These tuners develop issues on the connectors between boards.

The connectors get tarnished over time and will require cleaning. additionally the solder joints on the connectors crack and cause connection issues.

In you case it sounds like a power supply issue or switching on the IF section is going bad due to connectors.

The power supply is known to run hot as the 25V supply gets fed over 40V..

Best way to fix these is to disassemble the tuner and re solder all connectors. While you are in there its good to replace the >45 year old caps and the battery that has leaked on the tuning board.
