Thank you sir, may I have another... amp for my Cornwalls?

Hi.

I'm about to complete my first build: the Elekit TU-8600s to use with my Klipsch Cornwall Is. Of course I can't keep myself from thinking about getting a second amp to compliment it. I'm thinking that the Elekit will be may main amp for my normal low - mid volume listening. I'm under the impression that for a fun/loud/party scenario with dance, rock, and electronica I should probably get a different amp and maybe make put an A-B switch in to choose an amp according to the mood. I may even try bi-amping the Cornwalls at some point. I'm guessing that SS might be the way to go and I keep looping back to the First Watt amps. Source audio is Spotify/Tidal via a Sonos connect. I may do an inexpensive DAC like the Topping E30.

The question is: which is the best First Watt for me? I haven't been able to draw a conclusion.

Thanks!

Aaron

My current set up is Crites speakers and Aleph J which is a match made in heaven. I almost feel like selling off the rest of my equipment. The "Cornscala" is apparently similar to the Cornwall so, I will second the Aleph J.

Of note, I also paired the speakers with an F5 and it was like night and day. The F5 will definitely stay with the low impedance towers, unless I sell them off of course🙂

I have not built the M2 ........yet;-)

Do it! You know you want to. 🙂

Also didn't Steve Guttenberg use the Cornwalls in his ACA review? So that might be a fun one to try.

Steve is fun, mostly ........ and especially when communicating with Pa ...... and urging Herb R. to tell stories

however, him - having Cornwalls in room, and speaking Accolades about small expensive speakers (one of last videos) is sorta blow to his credential

I understand that different products are having different customers (base), but there can't be used same vocabulary, explaining big speakers and small ones

I'm sure of that, having every possible size of speakers ..... in fact also having similar Dynaudios right now

sorry for rant 🙂

in fact, I'm not sorry, don't care for political correctness

This inspired me to hook up my working ACA channel to my Cornwall 1s out in the garage...using my default break-in source, an FM tuner, didn't hear a thing. It is a 15 foot cable run, and no preamp, but surprising. Then hooked up my tape deck, still no preamp, and it was louder than I normally listen to in the house. It could have partially been the source, tape was Judy Collins, so substantial, but no head bashing base. And you will hear EVERY speck of dust on your tape, or more likely on the LP I recorded it from.

I think the 300Bs will be able to drive the Cornwalls equally well, so forget about the ACAs...especially if you are thinking about bi-amping.

If 6L6 wasn't too busy, he'd say, "the Aleph J, of course!"
There are so many fine Pass (and others one this site) amps, it can drive you nuts trying to figure out what's best. When I finally got out of that quicksand trap, I decided on the Aleph J as my next build, but also waiting for the M2X boards to be back in the diystore, and planing on what amp will be best for my THF-51Ss.

But after you finish that one, don't be surprised to hear Dennis' voice whispering in your ear, "just one more, it might be the one."

Cheers, and welcome to the rabbit hole.

I only have the Aleph J and it's shelved every one of our tube amps and that's quite a few.
