Hello.
Can anybody please tell me what regulator I can use to replace the MC7805?

It comes out of my Mission PCM2 cdp

My favorite is Murata SR7805 for $10....

A common 7805 regulator. There are multiple brands.

If that IC has failed short, it is likely to have spoiled everything it feeds

No I broke it when I took out the PCB, I did not know the regulator was attached to the heatsink.

That's a switching regulator - how quiet is it though?

I don't know how to interpret datasheets either.
