Peerless 6.5 SDS-160F25PR01

Peerless by Tymphany SDS-160F25PR01-08 6-1/2" Paper Cone Woofer Speaker

Anyone used these recently or ?

I was thinking:

4 of these as two small subs in a office/small shop? With a pair of ‘MtM mains’ (hivi m4n or dayton rs100 and tweeters.

Or as a W in a pair of WMtMW?

Or 4 seperates as TMW?

Im Kind of a 2 channel and subwoofer listener but that isn't really important... rs100s/hivi/peerless parts in hand(currently in other speakers.

This is one awesome budget driver that will provide deep and articulate bass in a properly sized enclosure. I have not had a chance to work with these but if you look for posts of member Greebster, you will find he deployed these in transmission line achieving bass response in upper 20's.

Peerless 830657 for <$6a piece! -

The SDS160 has very similar sound and specs to the 830657 but has almost twice the Xmax. I've used the 160 in a two way floor, standing test build with a Vifa BC25TG tweeter. However, my attempt at a crossover didn't quite come off; there was something not quite right with the overall sound. I also tried it with the 830657 and they sounded pretty much the same.

There's also an MTM floor standing design project using this woofer on Midwest Audio Club's DIY pages which uses a GRS tweeter and a really neat, simple crossover. If I can find the link I'll post it for you.

Thanks, that Dutch project looks interesting, slightly different cabinet to the one I used which was a BR. I haven't seen a MLTL with the port in the bottom of the cabinet before!

Some of the specs of the two Peerless are indeed different - at least the 'official version' - but I found the sound to be similar. Maybe the differences in the Le values were why mine didn't sound quite right?

You guys are great, thank you!

That parts express cabinet is making me wish i bought 4 more. Tower of bass:guilty:

i modeled the #830657 in Horn Response in the same offset driver Tapered Qw pipe as the #160f... and theres just a hint of difference(a bit of a dip as Le i suppose?), but both ‘flat’, well beyond ‘subwoofer at 100-120hz ’ and easily clean up for full range to tweeter,,except the ‘xmax’ cuts into the other quicker and tuning frequency is 5-7 hertz less or input reduced. If Using the same 60 liter, 35 or 42hz...

I have a couple of each of these Geoff:

Peerless by Tymphany BC25SC06-04 1" Textile Dome Tweeter

Peerless by Tymphany D26NC56-06 1" Fabric Dome Tweeter 6 Ohm

The BC25SC is the one used in the tower build in the PETT thread.

I think it used 4 of the Peerless woofers per side. One of the PETT members bought a carton of the $7 Peerless and measured them all, the specs varied a bit so maybe that was why they were so cheap.

Apart from my alleged crossover efforts, the SDS160 is a very nice sounding driver.
