OK so I'm sure I'm not gonna get a lot of love for this but here goes... Does anyone see any eBay tube pre-amp kits that could be easily or somewhat easily modified with cutting tracks ,changing component values and replacing crap ones, ect.... So that it could be used as a basic preamplifier for bass guitar.... Basically a pre-amp to run into a power amp or a straight bass amplifier? If so which one and how would I go about doing so? If anyone has anything similar they have seen or done personally please comment. If anyone has any constructive thoughts please comment.... But if you are just gonna **** on me save your energy. Thanks everyone. Also there is a kit called a single bottle pre-amp kit at DIY tubes. Com and there is a power supply kit also looks very affordable what would I need to do to make that a complete Pre amplifier set up and ready to rock? If you have the energy check it out for me please if not cool.... Thanks Again I am amazed at how many smart people there are on this site. Really makes a guy feel a lot less smart hanging around here lol. OK cheers... -dustin
If I were to mess around I would use a minimum of two tubes to get stuff happening in the signal path.
Hi Dustin,
My daughters bought me an electric bass for Christmas and I am in the same boat as you - really wanting to put together a bass pre-amp. Just something to get line-level out so I can have a usable signal for my choice of amp/speaker.
I just looked at the Single Bottle pre-amp kit (for the "Tomato"). They include the schematic. http://diy-tubes.com/image/data/manuals/single-bottle-v.1.2.pdf
I might be able to build that from scratch, but I'll have to look at it closer.

Dustin,
I found more DIY info on the Tomato here TOMATO guitar preamp
I am going to do some reading and might take a stab at bread-boarding it. Need to see if I have all the components laying around.
If I can built it, anyone can. Time will tell.

Some discussion about it here, ecc83 preamp
According to PRR's comments, the default schematic (specifically some of the capacitor values) may be okay for guitar, but probably not for bass guitar. I will have to look into optimizing those cap values.
The power supply is a no-brainer to build from scratch.

Hey thank you for replying, anything more you can offer would be great, please if anyone knows something of the like please tell.
Hey all, briefly looked at that power supply schem, and although it's not super high capacity supply I would strongly advise to put a bleeder resistor across that 470uF on the B+ which at 120VDC. This is not some low voltage "starved plate design", that multiplier is putting out some lethal volts. Just wanted to point that out to some who may not have experience or skill to recognize the danger, especially with regards to proper insulating, grounding and fuses..and making sure safety procedures are followed.
Is there anyone who could tell me some values that would. Work for bass. What exactly am I supposed. To be looking for to know a circuit is good for a bass pre-amp can anyone tell me what is what. Also does anyone have a laser printer ? I have the boards and echant but I am having trouble finding anyone with a laser printer to print out toner transfers. If I paid someone any of you to print out a circuit for a alembic f2-b or f1-x?.. Would anyone be Willing to do such a thing.?just print out what I email you and I'll mail you some money....
