Sorry to bring you down on Xmas day, but just learned that Leslie West passed away a couple of days ago. His live version of 'Roll Over Beethoven' is to me the best Rock'n'Roll ever.....
Aw crap. Another one lost.
I met Leslie at the DiMarzio booth at NAMM in Anaheim in the late 80's. At first I didn't recognize him but a glimpse of his NAMM badge, it was indeed Leslie. He lost a ton of weight and looked really good.
We were in the sound booth where you could plug in and jam without making too much noise to the rest of the convention. It couldn't have been any bigger than a 10'x10'. Leslie, Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Sheehan and I were in the tiny booth. Leslie strapped on the guitar and started wailing on the guitar. I was blown away. Leslie was one of the nicest and funniest guys I've met. He will sorely be missed.
RIP Mr West
