Buffalo II DAC with NTD1
For sale my up to now reference DAC. It was build with as good as it gets parts.
Susume RG smd resistors
Caddock MP930 power resistors
Matched output transistors from GB
For PSU regs upgraded to LT1085/LT1033 from Farnell
PSU includes 4 regs for output stage and 1 as raw power supply for Buffalo
You only need to add trafos, I have EI transformers but I reckon they are too heavy
Buffalo DAC was upgraded with LT3042 regs (Dimdim's pcbs)
Measures and plays perfectly

I appreciate every good implementation, I have 4 dacs in my rack right now, two of them I really like, I consider this one the really the best but you see it's a balanced one and I don't have a balanced amp. As for preamp I could turn DCG3 or DCB1 into balanced but still all the amps I have or like to build are unbalanced. You loose some top specs of the output stage with unbalanced connection.
I've tried opas for balanced to unbalanced and didn't like it. And straight connection to RCA with cold and ground connected is problematic at loud volumes. Same with SEN I/V. Not a problem in my friend's balanced system.
'You can't always get what you want'
I had the idea to build Patrick's discrete Bal to Unbal but it's in the end of my to do list, I don't see it happening any day now.
So if you have balanced system or you have a tried solution for conversion you liked, go for it.
I'm not in up to any more DACs / preamps. The Bufallo 9028 I'm asking is for a friend of mine who has a balanced Japanese Intergraded.

Hi Savvas,
it's a non-volumite / fixed output one, isn't it?
So nothing is missing beside a/some transformers?
Thanks, that may be a good deal for a mate with a "so-so" sounding RPi based DAC...

Yes, you need to add Volumite (still available from TP) to control volume digitally. Bufallo III has this build in and all is needed is a selector.
Yes transformers is all that is needed, it accepts I2S and SPDIF. As I write, I have the transformers but they are so heavy that shipping makes it not worth it to ship them.
