Electrocompaniet ECI-1 needs repair

The easiest way to test an amplifier without a schematic is to use a curve tracer or component analyzer and test every transistor and diode in-circuit. Use say +/- 5 volts and limit the current to a few ma. You can also use a DVM in diode mode. Any suspect devices can be removed and fully tested. Transistors will look like two diodes connected to the Base. MosFets are a bit more difficult to test.

Be sure to replace every single bad component before powering up or you could blow the output devices.

Went bankrupt ,changed owners in Sweden-- the USA Electrocompaniet Inc is a wholly owned US company so there will be variations in the function of the company in Europe and the USA .

As it stands many owners ( as of this date ) say its practically "unobtanium " but there must be somebody in the world who has squirreled away a schematic or knows a direct link ( no charge ) to it ?

If so DIY Audio could increase its membership by posting a link or even the schematic as large numbers of Audio enthusiasts are looking for one.

As of 2020 I have not found an owner who can obtain a schematic from the company ( discount -10/20 year old threads elsewhere ) but again ---if you know different please post to help audio enthusiasts.

Hi,
It is true, that the company had many financial problems the last few years. But they did a come-back with new investors.

Anyway, ECI-1 is one of the very first products, probably over 25-30 years old. Quite strange than no information can be achieved somewhere... it was quite successful int. amp.

Let’s see... the problem of this amp is the high frequency oscillation. I had no time up to now to search it in detail, but I will (thx to lockdown...!) after finish my ML repair/upgrade.

HF oscillation --- change in value of (usually ) a compensation capacitor unless somebody has been working on the circuit and changed components or the values of them ---a BAD thing to do if its a compensation capacitor as as design is modeled around that value.
