Not a DIY project but some help would be appreciated

I have a pair of Polk M7 speakers. one of the 6 1/2" mid bases is starting to distort sounding scratchy. The only way to eliminate it for a short while is to slightly tap on the speaker near the center but off the dome. It seems to work for a while. When it completely goes I do not want to give them up for scrap.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement driver?

Everything anyone has said about these speakers is true, great depth , clarity of sound, you can listen to music for hours with these and not tire.

Thanks, to all who are fans of these. I know there will be detractors.

You could try rotating the driver 180 degrees so that the top is now the bottom if that is within your capabilities. If the driver suspension has sagged, this may help. On the other hand, if the suspension has come loose from the coil former, then a replacement driver if still available may be the best route.

You may also be able to use a quick setting epoxy syringe if the former has come loose from the suspension to fix it in place.

I submit this as a possibility, but note I have no direct knowledge of the Polk M7.

MW Audio MW-6502-4: 6.5 inch Polk Audio Copy Woofer | Midwest Speaker Repair

The linked item is said to be "a great reproduction for many of the Polk Audio 6.5″ woofers"

You should remove your faulty driver to see if it is stamped with its model number. The linked item replaces the MW6502 woofer. Also, is the closest replacement woofer for the MW6511 and MW6512.
