Ok.
Perry Babing linked to an incredibly useful reference table.

That said, and just 2 letters being incomplete information, that is just a starting point, at least youb reduce infinite possibilities to, what? ... 6 - 8?

Then you refine search by taking note of package (SOT23, etc.), voltages present, etc.

Already knowing it is, say, "NPN transistor" helps.

Most small signal transistors are roughly interchangeable, so must so that Elktor Magazine published their famous TUP TUN DUS DUG replacement tables.

All transistors and diodes in each section are mutually compatible.

This is just one of those tables .... from 1977!!!!!

BR= 2SC2412K
FR= 2SA1037AK

Referencing the datasheet from rohm semiconductor for 2sc2412k B is the part. R is the HFE ranking.

You can see in the datasheet that it is complementary to 2SA1037AK. Then searching that transistor you see it has a part marking of F with HFE value of R.

Ive confirmed these are the parts on that board from partially rebuilding one due to water damage.
