Preamp dummy load

Is it wise to use a dummy load when testing a preamp? If so, what resistance would be correct?

Yes, use 100k // 300pF for tubes, and 10k // 1000pF for solid state.
Actual use will normally be less stressful than either of these loads.
Also test without loading for abnormal behaviors.
