Hello, asking for help please in trying to identify a kind of subwoofer I've seen in the past and remember vague details about.
It has like a curve sided V in the front of the driver. Not fully enclosed. I believe it was first worked out by a Dutchman? Used in the 1950s originally.
Thanks!

The Karlson isn't generally a subwoofer, it is a fullrange. Not sure if it is especially well suited to be a sub. But I am far from knowledgeable about it in detail. A fellow who goes by "freddi" is the Karlson afficionado
What are the acoustic principles behind a Karlson/Karlsonator speaker?

It's actually what it's best suited for, just have to build it big enough to go that low. The K15 would be just a woofer: A Speaker that Kicks Butt in Large Spaces

There is no good reason why a Karlson enclosure would work, and they don't if HiFi is your goal.
I am proud to mention Mr. Karlson was American, not Dutch, and judging from his last name, neither were his namegivers.

Karlson is a nord-germanic name, so from scandinavia, denmark or northern germany origin.
But the guy who invented it is a John E. Karlson, is an American, probally from scandinavian origin, and those cabinets were used for fullrange drivers in the 50's. A lot of info is found here: The Karlson Homepage
But now they are a bit obsolete, altough they still can sound good and have a hardcore fanclub. And a friend use those with some old Philps Alnico fullrange drivers, and that sounds very good for an oldskool speaker.

Sure there is, K15 is an 8th order BP, so BW limited to ~2.5-3 octaves it has more gain, better damped than an equivalent size BR, so make it bigger, tuned lower for actual 'sub' duty. Down low, 'HIFI' doesn't mean much as long as its properly damped.

This?
Hmm, this is no Karlson, just a TQWT with a K slot, though of course can be designed as a sub alignment.
