I've recently sent my NAD 614 cassette deck to a repairer as it was not receiving any power. He replaced the motor and drive belt and has now found that the solenoid controlling the lift/dop of the playing head is faulty. Unfortunately he can't source a new one. He has asked NAD but no luck there. On the NAD schematic it is called Ref 83 Solenoid Assembly and has a parts no. 0000P01030. Does anyone by chance know where such a thing can be had or whether an alternative part exists. Thanks in advance.

Broken parts ? Difficult to find / repair.
Solenoid winding open, perhaps it can be rewound.
MAACO is right I rewound an old industrial drill field coil .
Make sure its the same diameter copper wire and as a guide try to check the DC resistance of it at either soldered connection .
Sometimes its near the soldered tab you might be lucky

The time line of the fault sounds highly suspect to me tbh.
The deck was 'dead' (not receiving any power) and a repair of replacing a motor and a belt was performed. Now a solenoid is said to be faulty... none of that computes if I'm honest.

Copper wire in old cassette decks solenoids is pretty fine and easy to break.
I see where you are coming from Mooly.

So it looks like you guys are saying that there are some shenanigans going on with my repairer. Unfortunately I live out in the sticks and shops are few and far between let alone electronics repairers!! From memory he said that the solenoid was blowing the related transistor. Given that I'm stuck with what I've got is there any way I can source a spare or similar replacement?
I think your only hope for a replacement solenoid would be a scrap deck going cheap tbh. It will be a fairly unique type of part although perhaps used in other models (and even makes) but that doesn't help identify it unfortunately.
I'm sure he replaced it. Was it the same type or a fake ?he said that the solenoid was blowing the related transistor.
Why ? Burned coil ? Too much torque from stuck mech ?
Is The EMF diode in parallel missing ?
Solenoids usually don't burn, but can go open / broken.
I suspect more a cracked gear attached to the solenoid.
Something doesn't sound right.
Post a picture of the solenoid.

Although this thread has already started a couple of years ago, I want to contribute: I have had the same problem ... and still no solution :-(
I analyzed so many hour my measurements and the schematics but finally I came to the same conclusion, it's the solenoid. And no replacement in sight.
Studying the service manuals of the (only) 4 tape decks from NAD, that don't have mechanical control, 602, 613, 614 and 616, only the 602 seems to have the tape drive. But the 602 as well as the 614 are hard to find in the market and usually offered as (still) "working", thus too expensive to just use itto repair an already owned 614. But I "love" that tape deck and I will continue looking for a solution! I will let you know in case ...
