Connoisseur bd2 loud noise picked up when playing record

Picked up a bd2 and it has a loud noise when playing record I would guess around 150hz or so
Same regardless is speed picked

If I sit needle down on platter and remove the belt it’s gone! Popping belt off at speed noise goes away instantly

Can a belt transfer this much noise?

Sounds mechanical, either belt misalignment or motor bearing (when under pressure).

Belt misalignment is more of a problem than some people think and depending on the belt -yes it can transfer noise especially a flat belt.

Check the motor for bearing wear by holding it and see if there is any play in the pulley also check for play in the platter shaft that goes into the bush.

Having said that I think you should read this link as it mentions a "weak " motor ( intentionally ) and a known fault is the motor rubber mounting bushes wearing -read post by Brian _DURN it sounds all mechanical if the bushes are worn that would definitely cause belt misalignment -

I replaced the motor suspension with th erring trick. But this is the weirdness, if there is that much energy transferring via the belt I wouldn't expect the noise to be almost nothing with the needle sitting on a platter with the belt off and motor running.

I did try putting pressure on the motor as to tighten the belt without interfering with its operation and the higher the belt the more significant the noise.

I did remove the plate on the bottom and clean and tub it but not the top so I am going to to try that tonight. Maybe this is all bearing noise in the top bearing.....

You can adjust the position of the pulley on the motor shaft, it's a friction fit.
The belt should run as horizontally as possible.

Make sure you have the small band installed on the bottom of the motor that compensates for the belt tension,
to keep the motor vertical. When properly set up, neither the motor nor the pulley will touch any part of the plinth.
