My sub rattles - badly. It's not the driver. I don't think it's the cabinet. Could it be the ports?
If I block one port the vibration is reduced by 80%.
If I block both ports the vibration is reduced by 90%.
If I remove both ports and turn the cabinet on its side ( so the holes are sealed by the carpeted floor) the rattling vanishes.
My ports are similar to these but with a small flare on the internal end.
I'm stumped.

'Sounds' like the ports aren't anchored well enough in the baffle. Regardless, unless very short, vents anchored at one end ideally need a second mount clamped at one of the pipe's odd harmonics with ~ 2/5th [40%] or 1/3rd [33.3%] its length preferred, though many [most?] put it at the end [1st harmonic/fundamental].

Perhaps they are simply loose. Maybe poorly glued or even wrong choice of adhesive.
Bad port chuff can also manifest itself as a kind of rattling sound. How big is the driver and how big are the ports?

any high pass involved?
not that the driver is bad but blocking a port or both is effectively changing the tuning, you may be hitting x max sooner with both ports open

It could also be the cable rattling within the cabinet or air squishing (chuffing) through the magnet vents.
In order
(GM) The diameter of the ports is 40mm. The are 125mm long.
(Richieboy) The ports are well secured. The driver is 165mm.
(Turk 182) It's nothing to do with excursion limits. The rattling occurs at low volumes.
(TBTL) I changed the cable and secured the new one with staples. It's not magnet vents as I've tried three different drivers.
I'm going to build a new cabinet.
