I bought this CD player and replaced the tray open and close cog plus the rubber belt but it won't return on its own so I have to manually push it a bit for it to get the momentum up to close? The tray opens up Ok though? Has anyone come across this problem before or have any ideas on fixing this? 😀

Is it a lower motors belt you replaced?

Have you cleaned the microswitches?

I have replaced both belts and Im pretty sure the switches are Ok. The problem seems to be a round loading part number 116 in the exploded diagram that turns when the return switch is pressed but it doesnt have enough grunt from the motor to do the job? As I said the tray opens perfectly but when I press the same switch again to close the tray it tries to close but there is not enough power from the motor. Ive squirted Deoxit into the motor but that didnt fix it?

Deoxit can help in cleaning brushes. Put a blob of sewing oil into the shaft.
Touching the shaft bit a piece of impregnated paper beneath the pulley is enough.
Clean all the gear belt paths & the belt too with alcohol. Check if it isn't too loose.
Remove the tray, clean the grease & re-lubricate with Molykote.
Check for broken gear teeth.

What had me confused was the tray attempting to close when the ''Open'' switch was pressed again? There is no mention of a manual closing tray in the service manual either? This has had me going for years seeing as I don't have the remote? Anyway, thankyou all for the great advice fellas, I can finaly stop running around in circles trying to fix something that isnt broken!!! lol
