Unit has been carefully serviced but won't record. Where do we start looking for the solution?
Thanks, Chris.
Thanks, Chris.
How careful could it have been if it's not functional?
Cleaning is not servicing.
Mods: this needs a place in a more appropriate forum.

Couple of Experienced Nakamichi service techs are on here who know that unit. But surely the service report should have said if it was recording? Does playback work?
Nakamichi 1000 (won't Record)
Thanks for your reply. I own the unit but have no technical knowledge.
John, the tech has told me so far, that everything works except the record function. He has rebuilt Amps for me before and done a beautiful job but this one has him stumped. He really just wants to be pointed at the most likely places.
I think the best thing to do would be to get him to join up and then you can talk tech.
Thanks, Chris.

It seems to be a logic deck, so no mechanical switches. You have to study the service manual. Check if the uP is outputting the correct signals on its pins & if the logic routing IC's are responding to the signals. Not easy. But could also be a simple connector..
Perhaps You could try the Tapeheads forum. Many NAK techs there.
