Using this 220v SMPS in US, or help finding similar one

600w, +/- 58v planned to use with a pair of L20.5 amps, just realized it's 220v ONLY and i live in the US (basically copying @saarmichel )



whats nice about this one, is it has overcurrent and speaker protect modules built in


does anyone have any recommended SMPS that have similar capabilities? or should i just get a different SMPS with aux and run a separate delay/softstart/protection module (not even sure if all of those are in the same circuit)

There is often a jumper to select the input voltage.

i reached out to the seller and have inspected the unit a number of times, on the board specifically it says 220v and nothing else, and the seller said they do not carry a 110v model, there doesnt appear to be a jumper either


Yup. I added the capacitors to a SMPS to use it here. In theory, you should be able to feed the supply 340VDC from an external Delon and go from there.

i'm wondering if i can just feed it 110v and it would yield half the power? or just get a regular 120v SMPS, and do speaker protection separately, would have just been nice to have it all in one unit

Have a close look at your unit. Are there two filter 'lytics connected in series after the rectifier? Then you may add a jumper in accordance with the schematics Ketje has shown previously, hence create a Delon voltage doubler 😉.

i hadn't ordered the board since i realized it was only 220v, so i can't say. and it comes from china, so it will take a month to get here to play with it. can you tell from the link provided above?


And if it only has one filter cap (like mine did) remove it, and replace it with two in series like shown above.


interesting, so literally just using the caps for the additional voltage. still very new to this whole world. so mods like this go way over my head
 
I checked before posting the jumper solution.There are two 680µF / 200V capacitors on the photo.

thank you! so just so i'm clear, i should be able to get this board, either use an existing jumper or modifying it to include a jumper to essentially mimic your diagram based on what you've seen of the board and run it off a 120v outlet (USA)

Yes, jumper from the interconnection between the two electrolytics and a AC input (doesn't matter witch one) on the diode bridge.

i want to thank you once again for your help!


one last q, they said they can get it 110v out of the factory, i'm assuming they are doing the same mod you suggested


however they are saying that the wattage of the power supply will be lower on their 110v, is that accurate? even if i made the mod myself, would i lose output wattage?



perhaps i should order it 220v and do it myself if the mod shouldnt affect the overall output
 
Quit possible you loose some power.On 230V it's two phase rectifier and with 115V it is single phase.

A fix would be to make the two capacitors larger in value, but then you run into higher charging currents, and physical space constraints.


yeah, i think i'll just order two powersupplys, one for each L20.5 module



Why risk a kludge?

Doubly so since there are 1 month wait times involved, if thise one doesn´t work you will end up waiting TWO months.

PLEASE search and buy the PROPER supply, straigh from the beginning, period.


yeah, fair point, i tried asking that earlier in this thread. should i simply be getting a 500w smps and a protection circuit separately. the above folks seem pretty confident in getting 110v working, and the vendors are saying they can ship a 110v compatible one
