If you want long life out of a sheet woofer roll it off at 70 hz or so and get a sub to do the dirty work of moving volumes of air.
Subs have plenty of crossover choices and slope profiles built in.
You will get move dynamic range and lower distortion from the combo.

You can apply a mild bass-boost but it will also raise the distorsion. The common preamps do not have very good eq for this purpose. A sub or preferably two can give you a better result. It will require some work to integrate them well.
