Built up a USB PC scope interface pcb by hand.
A couple of the IC's are SOIC SMD 0.127mm pitch so a little care is needed.
Sometimes get a short and sometimes a dry joint so I now run soldering up and down pins a couple of times to be sure.
Shorts are found with magnifying glass and undone.
As its first power up microcontroller requires programming.
So plug programmer into plug on pcb and plug in USB cable for power and comms.
Micro wont program there is an error.
So re-solder pins using flux and solder on tip of iron.
Still wont program so I check for faults on pcb and everything looks good.
So think micro must be faulty.
Hot air gun to unsolder it.
Fit new micro and hey presto, still not working.
Starting to tear hair out now, well what's left.
I then turn around and catch USB cable with my foot.
Noticed its not plugged in PC end.

I love getting service calls where all you have to do is plug something back in.
I rebuild my own pc's with new motherboards etc.
On the last rebuild I fitted motherboard, cpu, fan etc etc.
I plugged in reset button cable to motherboard.
Pressed button and nothing.
So tried all combinations of plug and socket to no avail.
Mains plug was in the wall so couldnt work out what was wrong.
Then noticed no mains lead in back of pc power supply !
It then powered up.
So attempted to plug in HDMI cable into my graphics card.
It simply wouldnt go in and tried for a good 10 minutes different ways around etc.
Then realised I had picked up a USB cable not an HDMI cable doh !
I guess its partly my own fault with these problems as my cables are just lying everywhere. Digital camera USB, PICKIT 3 USB, Snap programmer USB etc etc
So its easy to grab the wrong cable.
Well at least that's my excuse.
Maybe a touch of old age creeping in too.

My digital camera packed up yesterday.
It powered up plugged into USB port but wouldnt talk to PC.
This is what happened my previous camera.
So thought great going to have to buy a new camera.
Went to unplug it and lead fell out camera end.
Looks like it was in far enough to power camera but D+ and D- USB data lines werent quite making.
So pushed it in all the way and the PC recognised it.
My wallet gave a big sigh of relief.
My USB lead for the scope is the only one that is light grey so couldn't really mistake it for anything else.
That works for a set system.
I am plugging in different things all day long on same lead.
Camera, PICKIT 3, Snap programmer, various USB DAC's, Bluetooth player, USB scopes, USB LC meter etc etc
Need more USB ports or a hub !
