Importance of OPT bell housing

Hi all. I've just found that I've mis-measured, and my OPT won't fit inside it's transformer can. If I remove one side of the bell housing to make it fit, will that cause any problems (lost sheilding etc)?

If it's a gapped series feed OT, the bell housing helps to keep the gap stable.

Thanks 😊. If I just cut off the end of the bell and put it back on, that will make it fit, but should still give some structural integrity. Would there be any problem with that?
