What is the purpose of the large cap that sits behind the speaker terminals ?

The amp was playing fine in the car is what the guy said .

He wanted the power block replaced since the power wire connection wouldn’t tighten down fully .

I opened up the amp and the large cap marked 106 was melted and I found U1 like this

That part of the photo is out of focus but it looks like it exploded internally and that part of the epoxy was pushed out. The capacitors rarely survive something like that. I'd expect it to be well out of tolerance, open or shorted.

If it was open or out of tolerance, you'd see a lot of high frequency noise on the output. If it was shorted, the amp would likely be going into protection.
