Screw size ?

I have a couple of cases that call for a small hex head cap screw but I am not positive about the size. Oh a 4x40 will fit but it feels a little lose is there another size perhaps metric with the same thread pitch but perhaps 1/100 " larger ?

Every Chinese case I used has 3x0.5 mm or 4x0.7 mm metric size screws.

Standard M3 and M4, in fact. M2.5/3/4/5 are all you are likely to see in most equipment.
