What could cause an amp to melt the speaker terminals off the board? That would have to be the speaker wires shorting right? Could that happen from the coil shorting?
Extrmely low impedance, or loose connection ( to the board ).
In both cases, there is a lot of heat at the base of the connector (or the point of connection/soldering point ) that at long time can cause loose connections so, much more heat and finally, your result.

It looks like it developed a bad connection, started arcing and that ate away the terminal and board.
