Infinity ES 103

Interesting... I consider myself a bit of an Infinity aficionado but I had never heard of these before now. Hopefully a schematic turns up for you. Probably more luck on audio asylum, karma, or one of the other classic speakers forums.

Keep us updated on what you find! I had a pair of polydomes for a long time that I really enjoyed. I only moved away from them when I got into directivity control. The matching dome material between the two looks nice. Since you don't have the original cabinets it could be fun to remove or trim the front plates off to get them closer together. If I remember correctly the basket behind the midrange is barely wider than the dome itself.

If you keep the front plates on they will certainly make for a very nice looking pair of bookshelves. A sealed 8" underneath and I think you will be a very happy camper.

I made some measurements on infinity domes. Not very happy with the mid dome, its less efficient than I expected, and its little lumpy in response. Tweeter is better, but it has nasty hump at 1.7kHz, which will need attention. I measured mid dome with 10uF protection cap, and tweeter with 2.2uF cap. Will need to cross it much higher than 1.7kHz.
Otherwise they sound clean, low distortion. Definitely will be more work on crossover than those HiVi domes I used before, those were ruler flat to start with.

300hz seems low for that mid. The 2" poly mids (albeit not polycell) in earlier models were usually 700 - 4000.

That mid is certainly less efficient than it is billed as, but more in line with what the infinity dome mids usually were like. With a simple crossover I can see how these were quite acceptable in the 80's. By today's standards they need a little work, as you said.

An AVR with room eq would probably do them justice.

Well, I abandoned the infinity domes project, mainly due to mid dome not performing up to my liking, but I decided to finish it in another form. I had Peerless dome, 5", which i used before. Even it looks like a dome, in reality, its not. It just pretends to be dome.
Point is, that infinity tweeter performed well, so it would be pity not to put it in some use.
Crossover is very simple, 0.5mH on mid dome, 4.7uF cap and 8 ohm resistor on tweeter. Tweeter is lot more efficient, but I do not mind small lift.
Here are some pictures.
