Hey, guys. I have no idea what other sub-forum to post this to but I hope you will forgive me my transgressions if this isn't the right place.
I test loudspeakers and raw drive units. I recently tested a Dyn MW172 8 inch mid/woofer. It's car audio marketed but with this group being so technical I thought you might still appreciate seeing the data/results.
My full review can be found here:
Dyn Audio MW172 Drive Unit Review
And if you're in to watching YouTube videos, I am trying my hand at those as well and this is the review for the Dyn:

Anyway, just thought I'd share. It's cool stuff for us audio nerds to bug out on. 🙂

Thanks for the trouble of testing this drive unit. My opinion is this, they are very overpriced and they are the best looking cone units in its class.
Thanks. And I pretty much agree. It is a gorgeous drive unit and it does have very nice linearity other than the issue around 1.2kHz. But the low excursion is what makes the value just not there.
Dynaudio 18W55 - curiosity
Manufacturer has already made some changes in their design philosophy regarding a smaller unit called 18W55. Personally I haven't got anything against driver shortcomings in general as long as it's cheap enough. Otherwise, I walk away.

Yeah. Dynaudio's newer drivers use technology that Scan-Speak have been using for as standard for decades.
Moving away from the 3" voice coils to 1.5", copper caps on pole piece, longer excursion eg. 6-7mm excursion

I'd like to get a hold of some of their newer drivers, then. I assume the ones you guys are talking about cannot be purchased separately and are just used in their loudspeakers?
