I will be building a My_Ref Fremen edtion LM3886 later when the new boards come in from the current group buy. I will also need a linestage, which I want to DIY, and wondered if something like this will match up decently:

DIY kit 2SK246/J103 FET input PER AMP board Imitation JC 2 Preamplifier Class A Dual differential|jc-2 preamplifier|class a preamplifierclass preamplifier - AliExpress

I thought about a passive but am not sure if that is the way to go, I have read about bass degradation with them but no experience. It would be the simplest to build. I was a licensed repair tech back in the day and can pretty much build anything from a schematic.

I have a Shiit Loki so I don't need tone controls, just 3 inputs, volume control and output.

Any suggestions?

Hm. This is just a suggestion.
As we have discussed it, with the original lm318 chip it is maybe better to have a ~low impedance output pre.

In case the choice of one of the fet-input opamps, presently either ADA4627, or OPA827 or OPA828 - - one can just place an ~50kohm pot directly on the input.
I had used quite a time like that. For me it brought no sound quality penalty, but simplification.

Now I am using direct dac - - amp connection and only software (HQP) volume control. Only for the brave, not recommended!!

Ciao, George

I have only used the LM318 opamp versions. Tube did not control it. For some reason the LightSpeed variants, passive and active worked well,
Today I just use DACs with volume controls. One is digital (AKM) the other a PGA4311, Using a MSA6116 also as a gain adjuster.
