buying tube sockets in Europe

Try Conrad. They have some odd tube stuff, and even had loctal PCB sockets (not octal).

Otherwise auction sites. I just bought 20 NOS Noval PCB sockets for approx $30 inc delivery, and they were much nicer than the Chinese ones I’d had before.

I bought some of the (assumed chinese, "advertised as "McMurdo" style) ceramic b9a and octal from an ebay seller in my home country. Probably £2.50 each, reasonably priced, shipping within the week.

So far, I am very satisfied with their quality (I have some bakelite, genuine McMurdo octals and the quality seems on par)

Banzaimusic.com (great selection and prices, but they dont always have everythingin stock and stuff is often backordered. Still my favourite go to place though).

If you are looking for a professional UK company who have been in the vintage valve business for quite a while click on-

VALVE BASES Archives - Langrex

Ceramic bases are sold , I agree with those questioning the quality of Chinese imports as China "builds to a price " don't blame China so much importers want a good profit.

I changed all my modern valve bases on my valve (tube ) tester to ceramic I took many bases off old UK government /industrial equipment that was sold for spares long ago so its high quality ceramic.

Normal plastic/bakelite bases wear out but buying ex government stuff meant the base contacts are gold plated and high quality.
