Looking to add four ceiling speakers to my 5.1 to make 5.1.4 for Atmos.
I want to do this on a budget though, since I'm a couple years away from a total home theater build.
It seems the Atmos ceiling speakers don't need to work below 150hz and should be somewhat non-directional.
At $100 for four speakers, any reason not to try the 4FE35's?
I don't have Atmos experience yet, but based on what I've read, I don't understand why some people are going with large speakers for the ceiling.

A 4" driver will be a bit beamy towards the treble - might be worth aiming them towards the listening area.
Apart from that, though, if they'll provide enough SPL etc then I see no reason why this shouldn't work.

91dB efficiency + 30W RMS power handling.
As long as I low pass the Faitals then I think I should be okay?
Was thinking of mounting them in a ported 8" PVC tube.
The mounting part would be cut at 45* angle, so speaker could be aimed to the listening area.
Then the top of the 8" PVC tube where it goes into ceiling, would be mounted so that I could swivel it around in a circle to get the best aim for left/right directionality.

Hmm, 8" PVC is kind of expensive.
8" Schedule 40 PVC Pipe 4004-080AB - Discount Prices
Might look at 8" Sonotube instead.

Though it would be easier to fab a baffle on the PVC.
