Trioded D3a is one of the most linear and low distortion tube.
Cons: a bit high gain for this application, and nowadays it's pricey.

Who cares about low distortion low level tube when it's a single ended and
has no feedback ? Whatever the first tube will deliver drowns in the powertubes
distortion.

It's possible, but you're running a single ended ultra-linear output stage with no feedback.

Only have D3A , E180F , 6c45p , 6E6P , 350A and 6550 , and 4.2K 40% OPT.
I can combine between those tubes.
E180F is cheaper and more available. EF86 would be even better if you insist on a penthode
ECC83 / ECC88 would make life easier and cheaper still.

I think E180F is enough to drive the KT88 6550 tubes.
I know they are good valves, the E180F, D3A, 6S45P, 6E6P.
Very linear.
Ask if there was a more convenient one.
More effects of linearity of the amp can be made by applying NFB then on
choosing among available tubes.
