MOSFET Substitutes - 2SK1056/2SJ160

Hi:

I need a pair of these to resurrect a Hafler 9130. There doesn't seem to be any threads/sources mentioned recently. I'm very skeptical of the spiffy looking ones being offered on eBay.

Does anyone have a reliable source or a recommendation for modern equivalents?

Thanks
Mayank

Hi Mayank,

i guess you could use the 2SJ162/2SK1058 also, the only difference is the max. Drain Source voltage. the one you mentioned has a Vgs of 120V, the suggested replacement has a Vgs of 160V: These types are installed in my Hafler SE-120, which has the same or similar mainboard installed. The suggested parts are more common avalable. There is also a replacement (ECX10N20/ECX10P20), available from Exicon, UK sold by Profusion plc

Thank you Günni. I would prefer to try and get a replacement for the original J160/K1056 pair.

I did find Little Diode UK has 3 pieces of Hitachi J160 in stock for GBP 9.59 each. Has anyone purchased from them before? Are they a reliable source?

Also, I found Dalbani Electronics, USA to have a few "pulled" K1056 for $10.50 each. Checking the history - it does appear that they have been selling these since 2013, so probably these are genuine/before the onslaught of counterfeit eBay components available so often.

Rgds
Mayank

PS: I have no affiliation with Little Diode or Dalbani Electronics

Edit: Pictures received from Dalbani show a leg of the K1056 Mosfet as cracked. Guess I need to continue my search 🙁

Hello Mayank,

as i understand, you like to replace with the exact types. i think it isnt necessary. The only difference between the used types and the suggested types is the different Vgs, all other parameters are equal, and the SK1058/SJ162 are easier to source. I think the Rockford company as follower of Hafler products see it the same.

The two offers you have, makes me think different. I would never used pulled parts, because you never know the history of them. Your second offer from GB leaves me back a little ambiguous in case of comments, i read about the seller.

As Dick West (R.I.P) mentioned in a thread here, the Hafler SE-120, 9130 are based on the same hardware (Mainboard), with differences in additional functions and housing.

Thank you Günni and Nigel for your recommendations.

I luckily just found a forum member who has "several hundred" matched pairs of NOS SK1058/SJ162 available. Hoping to get two pairs from him soon to replace both channels with the higher Vgs devices.

Best Regards
