Hi guys, it's been a long time sense I have participated here!
I follow a YT channel "NewRecordDay" which the host said that the GR Resarch A\VO's are basically "sleepers". Great great speakers that are usually overlooked.
Anybody know anything about this kit? It's an omni design that throws a big soundstage with claims of a "Frequency response is as good as +/-1.75dB". Kit looks really well put together too!

I heard a pair several years ago. Considering the small woofers they had very good bass. If you put them against a wall use your bass control.
Imaging was quite nice in a 14'x22' room with the speakers on the long wall, toed in15-20 degrees, on the short wall straight or 5 degrees was similar.
I'd say they'll get pretty loud by themselves, with a sub and a highpass you should be able to hurt yourself.

It says on the GR Research website the this speaker is intended mainly for rear surround sound in HT applications. If that is your use, then it might be a good choice.
But if you are looking mainly for 2-channel use with music, then you may want to consider the X-LS Encore kit for the same price. It uses better drivers, and has received excellent reviews. You can build it either as a small monitor of a floor stander like the A/V-0.
If you're not sure, I suggest you call or email Danny Richie and discuss it with him. I can't say for certain, but have a hunch he will recommend the X-LS over the A/V-0.

X-LS is an excellent speaker. You are getting unmatched value in terms of quality of components. Kit is superb with everything including screws, Teflon insulated silver wire and silver solder, port tubes, quality XO parts and PCBs, and nice quality drivers. It also measures very well. You could not replicate it yourself from scratch unless you spent much more.
Thanks Classicalfan and XRK791!
Truth be told, the AV/O we're appealing to me because of the omnidirectional upfiring woofer/mid/bass driver. The concept is really interesting to me- and the reviewer had praises over this subsequent soundstage out of the system.
I guess I'm not looking for the highest fidelity or most accurate musical reproduction, but one with a huge soundstage that fills the room.
The M-130 woofer peaked my interest because of the exceptionally Flat Frequency Response...Paper Cone... And the Non-Resonant Basket is cool!
M130 Woofer
I guess I'm sold with the feedback I've received 🙂. I'll be sure to post my (FIRST) build thread after who knows how many years of lurking these forums.... if I actually end up pulling the trigger... lol!

If your goal is huge soundstage that fills the room, then you might want to look at Open Baffle speakers instead. The GR Research X-Statik is a hybrid OB, and is only $150 more than the X-LS kit.
And if you're willing to go up to $650, the Magnepan LRS will provide about as big a soundstage as you can get for that kind of money. However, you will need the right kind of amp of drive it properly.

My main speakers are LX mini by Siegfried Linkwitz. Aren't these essentially the same thing? They have an upward firing woofer and a forward facing full range speaker. To me they look exactly like LX minis.
LXmini is more of a woofer-assisted-widerange, the AV-O is crossed above 2khz, the LXmini just below 700.
The paper cone in the AV-O is playing the midrange.
The LXmini(and the Pluto) have the 4"&2" playing the mids to the upper teens.
A very different choice as to where to have, or have not, your crossover.
Actually, they both sound good, it's like vehicle suspension designs, more about how well implemented they are, than which design.
