Just thought it would be nice to have a thread about stuff you've done around the house, and the important bit would be to take a picture of the completed job and a celebratory glass/bottle/can of beer (any kind, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, must be Beer, or wine or other type of fermented beverage 😉).
Small job or big, doesn't matter, as long as you're happy to be done with it and feel the need to mark the occasion. 🙂
We moved house almost 1 year ago, so many things we've had to get out of the way first.
The previous owner was not that good on work outside of the house, and I don't know who did the paint job on the terrace, but it's not good. The boards have not been painted or oiled in many years, and I've been peeling off paint on the top of the railing very easily with my fingers, because they used some rubbish acrylic paint, with no prepwork, on pressure impregnated wood.
This is the first time I can remember that I've been able to finish a task like this before Easter was over.
Yesterday I moved everything out of the way, pre-wash, wash with suitable detergent containing anionic tensides, scrub, 2 x rinse.
The floor boards completely soaked up 6 liters of linseed oil that I bought for the job last year, in two coatings. There was nothing left for the stairs (or top of the railing), but I found a small leftover of some kind of industrial "teak" coloured oil that was just enough for the stairs.
Good for the day, nice to have something cool to drink in the nice weather. Need more oil for the railing, and have to consider sanding it down properly first.

Our quarter of a century old, fitted electric oven picked a good time to self-destruct last weekend!
Fortunately our local electrical emporium is still delivering to the doorstep, so I've installed a replacement today.
My reward comes in the form of hot food and a glass or two of 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon at wine o' clock!

During my drinking years, I perfected the method. Drink the beer first, and then the drudge work becomes lower priority and sometimes vanishes completely

That changes a bit if you brew stuff yourself, takes a while to get it done good & proper. So you sort of put more value on it, or at least I do.
You could celebrate with something like Kombucha. It says any kind of fermented beverage now 😀 Alcoholic or not.

House maintenance and beer is one word, can't have one without the other, ying/yang🙂.

I have thought of a thread like this, so thank you!
Its not audio related, other than the connection with home/soul
I have started a few projects the last 10 days or so,
Painted the back of the house, the job didn't get finished last year due to over zealous paint stripping.
I started a wall hung cabin bed, hung in my smallest room, then realised I needed to buy a good mitre saw and some more 63x38 timber. Still waiting the arrival of some tools, pocket hole jig arrived and tested out ok.
So I got bored trying to chuck out odds and ends I havent used, when I found about 2/3 litre of some emulsion I bought for a feature wall, and then never used.
So we all painted the shed, which is practically falling down, but it looks good.
It's an awesome colour for the garden!
I hope it survives when we try and move it!

Hehe, well I thinned it out quite a bit.
I think the colour is great! Maybe it's the backdrop of breeze block, Victorian brick and cheap astroturf that makes it look so good!
It's certainly not as fine a result or vista, as Kaffiman has there! But its little piece of brightness, that cost nothing but time.

I had a chance to use 100% pure tung oil on the drum sanded cedar deck.
It doesn't yellow like linseed which i had to use on some of the rim board due to running out of tung.
If you get the chance to use it on your wood projects try it!

Furthermore, you are following in the footsteps of Pablo Picasso during his Blue Period! 😉
I do have a 3 liter bucket of good quality tung oil, but I was a bit uncertain about mixing them. The linseed oil will probably be good tomorrow, perhaps I should try to do a final coating with tung oil.
My experience is that the options on linseed oil is raw or boiled. I would not use raw on anything indoors. It stinks.
My experience is tung oil is fine indoors, but is not as weather resistant as linseed oil.
I find after finishing working on a project, bathing is a good thing!
I did once use a latex paint over weather treated wood to take advantage of the paint peeling a bit to make a project look old! I wanted it to match the existing building.

Just got back from a quick mini-raid, got more linseed oil for the floor boards.
Perhaps I'll have some Mead to go with that.

I used to use Boiled Linseed oil on old rifle stocks. The trick is to add some Japan Drier to it.
Spring cleaning and small greenhouse build.
I see you still have some snow @kafimann, a thing that we haven't seen to much of around here this winter.
You have a very nice view from your porch.
My wife wanted a small greenhouse, I guess we will be done in the afternoon.
I rake old leaves and plan to manure the grass.
I also send a picture of our squirrelhouse with the nutstorage under it.
Our son, Theo, are up in the tree inspecting the house.
And his small house, formed like a teodolit tower from coastal artillery. The wood from our former porch reused 🙂
"Before lunch" beer is Åbro.
After lunch I grab the heavy stuff, Belgian Trappists like blue Chimay 🙂
The people from Stockholm arrived here and went shopping today.
When they were asked if they are stupid for real or if they have both hearing and readingproblems the wife said that "we have a cabin here".

Sky Blue is the home colour of my local football/soccer club, who won the FA when I was kid, then fell off the tables, lost their ground, before climbing back up the league. Not that I am a huge soccer fan, mind you.
This is Teal Tension, a very Kingfisher blue colour. Frankly I'm amazed how much better the shed looks, even if the roof is shot and the bottom rotted out.
I'd much rather have a terrace/balcony like yours! And the view is great!
Of course, a garage is a more useful space, which i don't have, so all DIY happens in the living room! It's a sore point, it's hard enough to park a car around here, if we did have a garage, I'd not get the use of the space.
Eventually, I am going to remove that shed, and build one across the width if the garden, about 12ft. But first I have to lay a concrete slab/remove the existing 6x4ft slab, and sort the fencing around that end of the garden. And hide the ugly walls, that one is the best looking hy far!
