You can ask the mods to correct rather than disable the account. Actually I think you can even do it yourself from your User Command Post.

A user can not change "name". (Could aid fraud and general trouble.)
User name-change is a routine function for Moderators. There were 6 or 8 such requests in the last year, all apparently handled, though I think those threads get cleaned-out?
