Good morning. I've been looking for a new kit after my 1980 Electronics Today International (Australia) ETI4000s became irreparable. They lasted 40 years, with only a minor problem or two.
So I thought I'd post the original ETI kit article, just for historical value (if any).
I am looking at the Adelaide Speakers Summoner 1093DQTL kit. Summoner Series - Large 3-way floorstanders
Thoughts?

'irreparable' - what's the prob? Driver cones too fragile?
Summoner 1093DQTL kit - seems a reasonable price, have you heard them?

Yes, both bass and two MRs plus one tweeter. Crossovers OK but need work according to repair man.
Boxes are just crumbling into dust and not sealed any more - 99% humidity in wet season and bone dry in winter not a good environment.
I haven't heard the Adelaide Speakers units - I'm in Far North Queensland and no hifi stores so whatever I buy will most likely be sound unheard. I listened to a couple of sets of Yamahas and Klipschs and was unimpressed, but that's about all that's available here apart from the usual cheap stuff.

"Boxes are just crumbling' - time to move on then... couldn't find any reviews of the Summoners apart from enthusiastic new owners, but given the quality of SB drivers I'd say go for it....
Another thought, perhaps Polypropylene cones would last better in a humid environment, maybe it would be worth asking if Adelaide Speakers have such a design, or could modify an existing one...
Which brings up another Q. - what materials would cope well in your environment? Melamine coated chipboard? Ply with an epoxy coat?
