Hi,
not the moment to ask postmen to carry such things, but I liked the idea?
Drop: Passions lead here (formerly Massdrop)
Is it a good idea to putt an OTL between a DAC and headphones (big ones) please ?
Thank you

Depending on your headphones' impedance. These Darkvoice amps are great match for Sennheiser HDxxx series. Should be good for 150-ohm too. Other than that, not so good.
''SPECS
DarkVoice
Tubes: 6N8P and 6N5P
Impedance: 32 ~ 600 Ohms''
This is the best joke about an OTL.

Thanks guys,
Best to avoid OTLs so ? Or are there ok for very low impedance as the big ESL loudspeakers, i.e. not suited for the high impedances seen with headphones?
I read the new oaps (TI 16xx family) you can see everywhere in headphones amp are very good and noiseless but unatural ?
In theory diamond like solid states schems or OTL, so w/o outputt trafo or dc blocking caps sounds good to me but I really don't know in real life if good and-or risky for headphones ?
Too much hum for a big magnetic planar headphones ? Saw ESLs Staks still use tubes in their best amp and so did Fostex with its flagship headphones amp - while much more complicated that the little Drop's amp

Thank you,
a long time I didn't go to Andrea's pages, never noticed before about otl headphones amp... my next read.😎

This looks like a good start (cathode follower for low output impedance). An other way can be the Zotl amp as this can even drive loudspeakers of 4 Ohms.

Just finished my functional prototype of a 6N1P/6N6P OTL headphone amp. Very simple design. It just sounds wonderful, despite making music through crocodile clamps 🙂
32-600Ohms, running on 28Ohms headphones at moderate powers. A killer.

Hi Vortex,
look at Miro1360 ad1892 little dax, I try to finally use a modern good sounding aop, while sure an OTL would perform best as a buffer 🙂

Thank you, I'll check it out. But .. to be honest.. I'm enjoying this so much I'm actually going to put it into a proper chassis, with all the goodies it needs. It's just such an amazing experience now, this kind of detail, dynamics and bass drive, first I was like 'holy ****'. It just needs to stay in my system. But I'm open to new things - as always 🙂

- OTL amp for headphones, good idea ?
