ideally, transparency and possibly to bring the midrange forward
i have an apogee stage with a north creek xover and that brought the performance leaps and bounds
i heard that the xover component from maggies of that era are adequate and aimed at cost savings, so thought maybe going fancy and posher would yield a better performance after all
rogergustavsson , you seem like you have in-depth knowledge, what are your findings?
regards

I have the Apogee Stage an the Slant 6....Stages have the North creek Mod in the crossovers also....Big improvement...
The Magnepanes May sound biger an are a lot of fun.....but even the Magnepan I have with the true ribbon...don't stand up to the Apogees

All just one mans o-pine...Good luck

To have the midrange more forward, you need to decrease the bass and tweeter. That can be done by going to an active crossover and use double power amps. For instance one stereo amp per speaker. One channel for the bass and the other for mid/tweeter. The passive crossover bass to mid will not be used. You keep the passive crossover for the mid/tweeter and have the possibility to set the tweeter level with a series resistor. The level between bass and mid/tweeter can be set at the line level active crossover. The active crossover could be a little miniDSP. It has a lot of possibilities!

A question as I have no personal experience of the 2.7. Do they have the magnets in front of the diaphragm or behind? If they are in front, you can turn the speakers or the drivers around. That changes the tonal balance a bit when there are less obstacles in the way to your ears.

Peter Gunn ...Of Magnestand " Where Maggies live an & Breathe".....said at one time...the MG2.7r with his crossover mod
an turning the panels around...one of the best Magnepans Made..at that time...years ago
Vary nice guy...May give you his Crossover if you E-mail him

Magnepan where the bass, mid and tweeter share the same sheet of Mylar is a bit different than separate drivers for each register. There is little to gain using an active crossover mid-to-tweeter. I would begin with following the original slopes and take from there.

I had a pair of gunned 2.7s for a few years. To my ears they were far better than the stock speakers. One thing to consider is he tied the tweeter and mid together to turn them into a 2 way. If I am remembering right the mid and tweeter were both out of the QR wire.

Good luck with the project!
